Halfords Autocentre Experience

On Sunday 28th June 2015 three of our Westdean Year 10 pupils attended a visit along with pupils from other PRU’s to Halfords Autocentre that was organised by the Dallaglio Foundation.

There were two different activities and all of the pupils attended both sessions. The pupils had the opportunity to experience all aspects of a car being serviced and the process of an MOT. This included them getting fully involved, changing oil, measuring tyre depths and the process of reporting faults or issues raised. The second session that they attended looked at the design of the customer service experience and the importance of delivering a high quality service to customers.

Pupils were given an explanation as to how the Halfords apprentice scheme works, exploring the potential benefits and earning capabilities once on the scheme. One of the highlights of the day was a presentation given by a former apprentice who through the scheme had attended the world skills competition in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

The final part of the day was a challenge for the pupils to compete by seeing who could change a tyre the fastest. This brought out everyone’s competitive streak and was a fun end to a very successful trip.
